Library Team Representing Pacific in Trivia Bee
Thursday, February 19th, 2009
A team from the Library will be representing University of the Pacific in the Stockton Library and Literacy Foundation’s annual Trivia Bee. The event will be Friday, March 13 at the Stockton Civic Auditorium. The teams need cheerleaders, so come and enjoy a buffet dinner, a silent auction, wacky costumes, and a lot of trivia on the theme “Monsters, Mysteries, & Magic”.
The Trivia Bee, now in its 18th year, is the primary fundraising event for the Library & Literacy Foundation. Last year 37 teams and sponsors generated over $60,000 for literacy programs that help people right here in our community.
More information on tickets and entering the Bee is available from the Stockton Public Library.
In celebration of Black History Month, the Library is featuring works by and about members of the African American community, including titles by Wanda Coleman, the “L. A. Blueswoman, a.k.a. “the unofficial poet laureate of Los Angeles,” (on campus 2/19!), President Barack Obama, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Elizabeth Alexander, Cornel West, bell hooks, Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and Toni Morrison, as well as works on Langston Hughes (referenced during Danny Glover’s presentation on campus!), Ella Baker, Frederick Douglass, Jo Ann Gibson Robinson, Paul Robeson, and many others!
