A New Assistant Dean of the Library

On July 10 the library welcomed the arrival of Fred Gertler, the new Assistant Dean. Fred comes to Pacific from Santa Clara University where he worked as the Head of Customer Services. His experience and enthusiasm will contribute greatly the fulfillment of the library’s mission, and we’re very excited to be working with him.

Holt-Atherton’s Dave Brubeck Traveling Exhibit

University of the Pacific Holt-Atherton Special Collections has recently created a traveling exhibit about Dave Brubeck called “The Times of Dave Brubeck”. It explores the legendary musician’s jazz and classical music, his contributions to civil rights, and his participation in using jazz as a diplomatic tool in the 1950s and 1980s. There is a continuous loop of some of Brubeck’s most famous tunes and an opportunity for visitors to hear Dave explain aspects of his own music. Upgrades and Redesigns for PacifiCat

Library staff have completed a major upgrade of the Aleph system that drives the PacifiCat library catalog and its related components. Systems head Greg Joksch managed the installation and move from version 15 to version 17, while Glenn Pillsbury, library media specialist, gave the web catalog a visual makeover. The user interface and overall usefullness have been improved as well. Be sure to let us know what you think!
